Musical production (music composition, studio work)
Sound recording technician (A.K.A. audio engineer) : He deals with sound in a studio production but also during pre-production demos in music and entertainment.
Audio mixer (A.K.A. Mixing engineer) : He is responsible for combining music elements of music focusing on the style, the medium (CD, Radio, Club) and the target audience.
Audio artist : Either called composer, DJ or musician, the “sound artist” often works independently and must optimize the quality of his work before completing with the help of a specialist.
Studio technician : For the professional studio or semi-pro home studio, he make sure that the tools work well. (Connections, installation, computer configuration and physical)
Producer : He is responsible for combining the demands of the production company and the vision of the artist into a viable product. It may even involve the he’s participation in the writing and composing of songs.
Mastering mixer : He is the last ear that finalizes the sound of the actual release and optimizes the result by the distribution medium (CD or radio), the style and market targeted.
Audio production (radio, TV, film, video games)
Sound designer, audio editor, sound effects artist, foley artist : Depending on the type of production, this may be the work of one person or a great team with specializations. It covers everything done to create a soundtrack, including sound effects, ambiences, sound effects, dialogue and music.
Mixer (A.K.A. Mixing engineer, re-recording engineer) : He is responsible for optimizing the audio mix for specific mediums with different needs (film, DVD, TV, video game or web).
Audio integrator :
In the world of video games, he is responsible for “integrating the sound elements in the interactive work and set their reactions.
Reaching listeners (live show, broadcast radio or TV)
Soundman : He is responsible for mixing live sound at a show, often called “FOH” or “Front Of House”. We also find, depending on the size of the show, another soundman, responsible of the musician’s monitor mix.
Show technician : Also known as “Roadie” or “Band Gear”, often a musician himself, he is responsible for the installation of the stage and the band’s instruments. He may also be the sound engineer’s assistant.
Broadcast technician (A.K.A. Broadcast engineer, radio show producer) : He is responsible for mixing the hosts, advertising and music as well as keeping the timing of the show.
